Are you a renter that moved in the past two years?  Take our Renter Survey to help us show HUD how expensive our rental market is, and receive a $5 Starbucks Gift Card! The US Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD) generates data regarding “fair market rents” (FMRs) for every local community. This data is used to help provide funding for various state and local programs designed to help those in need. If the FMRs are too low, our community won’t get the funding we need for low-income housing programs. The Housing Authority of the County of Santa Cruz (HACSC) is supporting this survey and encourages your participation. The survey is quick and easy and takes less than five minutes. Santa Cruz County has issued a Shelter-In-Place order to prevent further spread of COVID-19.  As a result of this directive, effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020, the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Cruz will suspend public access to the main office until the Shelter-In-Place directive is lifted.

During this office closure, the Housing Authority will continue to provide essential services to our community.  Our top priority is housing families safely, in compliance with public health guidance.  We have alternate means for you to continue doing business with us without visiting our office lobby:

• Emergency and urgent work orders will be addressed for Housing Authority managed properties. Call 831-427-8206 for after hours service.
• All face-to-face appointments, routine annual inspections, and other non-essential functions will be postponed until conditions allow these activities to resume.
• Please continue to pay your rent to your landlord.  Submit any required paperwork and documentation to the Housing Authority as soon as reasonably possible given the current situation.
• Most forms are available here.  Additionally, staff can provide forms via fax, mail or email.
• Program participants, vendors and tenants may drop off paperwork in the external drop box at the main office or fax documents to 831-469-3712.

Following guidance from the Santa Cruz County Health Department, the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Cruz is implementing the following temporary, interim measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, or Coronavirus, at least through March 31, 2020 or until further guidelines.

Temporary Measures

• Routine, Face-to-Face Office Visits: The Housing Authority is temporarily suspending all routine face-to-face office visits.  We will attempt to conduct business by phone, by email, and by mail where possible.  Instead of visiting our office lobby, we encourage you to call us at 454-9455.  We plan to keep our doors open to the public, but our staff may not be able to assist you in person.  Instead, we can accept documents through our drop-box and/or make an appointment to speak with you on the phone.
• Property Management: Non-urgent, non-emergency work orders will be postponed.

What You Can Do To Stay Healthy and Stay Informed 

• Follow Guidelines from Health Department – We encourage everyone to follow the guidelines published by the health department, including many common sense strategies such as frequent hand washing, cleaning “high touch” surfaces, and social distancing measures like avoiding being in close proximity with large groups and shaking hands.
• Sign Up For Housing Authority Updates – The guidelines from the health department regarding COVID-19 have been evolving rapidly. The Housing Authority may take additional measures before returning to “business as usual”.  Please consider signing up for email updates so the Housing Authority can alert you to any changes to the above temporary measures, or for other Housing Authority related news.  You can sign up for any of the following email distribution lists on our home page at hacosantacruz.org.
