The Housing Authority of the County of Santa Cruz is committed to advancing access to affordable housing and a thriving community free from discrimination. Through our mission, we provide affordable housing and inclusive services to our diverse community with compassion and kindness. We view housing as a catalyst to promote equity, economic mobility, dignity, stability, and improved quality of life.

In this spirit, we stand in solidarity with immigrant families. The Housing Authority affirms our dedication to supporting all program participants, applicants, and community members, including immigrant families, and providing resources to help families feel safe, and to empower families with information about their rights.

At this time, there are no changes to eligibility requirements for the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) or Project Based Voucher Program. In the event that there are any changes to eligibility requirements, we will update this website.

Please be aware of the following:

• ICE agents cannot enter private areas of the Housing Authority offices or properties, including your private home, without a judicial warrant or warrant signed by a judge. Without the proper warrant ICE agents can only access those spaces accessible to the general public. If ICE shows up at any of the Housing Authority offices or properties, staff have been instructed to notify a supervisor immediately.
• The PII reported to the Housing Authority, including information about citizenship and immigration status is private and confidential. However, if you apply for or participate in federally funded housing programs (such as the Housing Choice Voucher and Project Based Voucher Programs), we must use a verification consent form to ask about citizenship and immigration status to determine program eligibility. The Housing Authority may be required to release evidence of immigration status to the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) and HUD may release such evidence on immigration status to ICE only for the purpose of establishing program eligibility for financial assistance. HUD is not responsible for the further use or transmission of evidence of immigration status or other information by ICE.

All people in the United States, regardless of immigration status, have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution. The ILRC’s Red Cards help people assert their rights and defend themselves in many situations, such as when ICE agents go to a home.
